Aflac Incorporated, a top provider of cancer insurance in both the U.S. and Japan, has partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS), a leading force in the fight against cancer with a mission to eliminate the disease for all. This collaboration aims to highlight the importance of early cancer detection and its role in helping individuals manage the physical, emotional, and financial burdens that often come with a cancer diagnosis. Recent data from the 2024 Aflac Wellness Matters Survey shows that 77% of Americans delay routine health checkups, and 60% skip essential health and cancer screenings—particularly among millennials.
Through this partnership, Aflac and ACS will work together to encourage proactive health management among employees, promoting overall workforce well-being while also helping to reduce health care costs. This initiative supports findings from the 2024–2025 Aflac WorkForces Report, which revealed that 70% of employees feel at least some anxiety about receiving a serious medical diagnosis, and over half of Americans (51%) are financially unprepared to cover a $1,000 medical emergency.
In alignment with Aflac’s long-standing mission to support policyholders before, during, and after a cancer diagnosis, the company will help share ACS’s resources and support programs. These include the Road to Recovery® program, offering free transportation to cancer-related medical appointments, and Hope Lodge®, which provides complimentary lodging for patients undergoing treatment away from home.
“As a pioneer and leader in cancer insurance in the U.S., with a 70-year history of delivering critical support to our customers, we understand that early detection can lead to better health outcomes—physically, emotionally, and financially,” said Virgil Miller, President of Aflac Incorporated. “We’re proud to partner with the American Cancer Society, as our goals are closely aligned—to improve health outcomes and lessen the financial strain that comes with serious illnesses.”
The partnership will also help expand awareness of ACS’s Employee Toolkit resources. A newly launched webpage will give employers easy access to cancer prevention tools, including screening guidelines and educational content to support employees affected by cancer. Aflac team members will be equipped to share these resources with clients across the country.
“We are excited to join forces with Aflac to expand access to our programs and services for those who need them most,” said Dr. Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at the American Cancer Society. “Cancer is not something anyone should have to face alone—it requires strong community support and access to vital resources to overcome the daily challenges many patients encounter.”
Further demonstrating their commitment, Aflac’s Virgil Miller will spearhead the launch of Georgia’s first CEOs Against Cancer chapter—an initiative supported by prominent business leaders nationwide. He will take on a two-year role as chair and serve as a spokesperson for the new chapter.
Additionally, in 2023, Aflac enhanced its cancer insurance offerings to better reflect changes in the healthcare landscape, including improved benefits for outpatient care. The company also introduced a new process for first-time cancer claimants, giving them the opportunity to speak with specially trained professionals who provide compassionate support during what can be a deeply emotional experience.
