Baker Hughes Sponsors 2024 Bad Pants Open to Support Texas Children's NICU

Baker Hughes is excited to announce its role as the presenting sponsor for the 2024 Bad Pants Open, a yearly event dedicated to raising essential funds for Texas Children’s Hospital Newborn Center® and its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The golf tournament is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at Champions Golf Club in northwest Houston.

Since its launch in 1998, the Bad Pants Open has generated over $7 million to advance innovation and excellence in the research, treatment, and care of newborns in the center. As the largest pediatric hospital system in the country, Texas Children’s NICU in Houston is among the biggest specialized facilities of its kind in the nation, and was the first to receive Level IV NICU designation — the highest level of care available for premature and critically ill infants — from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“Care is a fundamental value at Baker Hughes, reflecting our commitment to advancing energy solutions that are cleaner, safer, and more efficient for people and the planet,” said Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli. “Many of our employees in Houston trust Texas Children’s with their family’s healthcare needs, and we are honored to support the outstanding care they provide to their tiniest patients, many of whom come from across the nation and the world.”

“The NICU at Texas Children’s Hospital is a place where everyday miracles happen. Each year, over 1,800 critically ill infants begin their lives here,” said Dr. Kristina Reber, Chief of Neonatology. “These young patients inspire us with their resilience and teach us the true meaning of strength. They rely on us for the specialized medical care, love, and support they need to overcome their challenges.”

In 2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked Texas Children’s as the No. 1 best children’s hospital in Texas and the 3rd best in the nation, with all specialties making it into the top 10 for the first time. The neonatology department holds the No. 3 spot, with over 7,000 babies born each year.

Proceeds from this year’s Bad Pants Open will support a new peer-to-peer support service provided by Hand to Hold, an organization offering personalized emotional support, guidance, and encouragement to families before, during, and after their NICU experience, helping them navigate what can be an overwhelming time.
