Bechtel supports local economy, creates job opportunity, volunteers in the local community while it designs its new energy facilities by keeping the community in mind.

Dailycsr.com – 29 April 2020 – Bechtel has newly built the “Cricket Valley Energy Center” will be supplying “low-carbon, affordable, safe and reliable power” to yet anther one million New York based homes. The plant is located at Dover and has a capacity of “1,100-megawatt” while the facility is also a “combined-cycle plant”. With the help of “advanced emissions-control technology” the plant would become one of the “most efficient power-generation facilities in the U.S.”.

Advanced Power is the Asset Manager as well as the Developer of the “Cricket Valley Energy Center”, whereby the former’s chief executive officer, Tom Spang said:
“Every day, on every project, Bechtel has brought their A game, partnering with us and continuously striving to build better, faster, and safer as we strive to advance a sustainable energy future. Today, that attitude has brought power to one-million more homes in New York state”.

While designing and constructing the plant facility, community needs were given priority so as to “minimize the visual and noise impacts to surrounding residents”. Moreover, the project has made a significant contribution to boost the local economy as it poured in over “$400 million in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts to local businesses” while another “$8 million” went to the “local suppliers”.

In fact, when the construction was at its peak, the project was employing over eleven hundred people wherein the local help formed the majority. Furthermore, the plant upon its completion will be opening up twenty five permanent job opportunities. The team also contributed in local charities while the employees either volunteered at or made a donation to “Habitat for Humanity” along with “the Dover Plains Center of Compassion, and Dover High School”. In a most recent response to COVID-19 crisis, the team “donated N95 masks to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York”.

According to the press release of Bechtel:
“The Cricket Valley Energy Center uses a highly efficient, environmentally responsible process of converting clean-burning natural gas to electricity. The station uses three combustion turbines, each paired with a heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine generator. Unlike older combined-cycle power plants, the facility is equipped with state-of-the-art emission-control technology that significantly reduces emissions”.

While, the Center’s Project Manager at Bechtel, Joe Collins added:
“The Cricket Valley Energy Center is a significant advancement in the goal of delivering more reliable low-carbon energy to New Yorkers. We are proud to support Advanced Power as a valued partner in moving the industry toward more environmentally safe technologies. There is no silver bullet to achieving net zero, but we continue working with our customers to help the industry move faster in that direction”.
