Bridging Canada’s Digital Skills Gap in the Age of AI
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global provider of IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has released a new report focused on bridging the digital skills gap in Canada. The report, titled “The Digital Skills Imperative in Canada,” emphasizes the importance of equipping jobseekers with the capabilities required to thrive in a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

The findings, drawn from a recent roundtable discussion held in Toronto, are now accessible via the TCS Digital Empowers Insights platform.

During the roundtable, representatives from TCS and The Dais—a public policy and leadership think tank affiliated with Toronto Metropolitan University—engaged with key figures from Canada's employment, education, and business sectors. The conversation centered on how to support individuals who may be disadvantaged by the fast-paced evolution of AI technologies and the growing demand for specialized skills.

The report examines how emerging trends are influencing the need for skilled talent and highlights both the obstacles and opportunities that lie ahead for jobseekers. Key recommendations include:
  • Encouraging greater transparency from higher education institutions and businesses regarding the specific skills required for various roles;
  • Urging large organizations to invest in upskilling their workforce to promote employee retention and enhance Canada’s global competitiveness;
  • Enhancing the value of micro-credentials—short, targeted educational programs—by collaborating with employers to ensure the curriculum aligns with industry needs.
