Celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month with Xfinity: Free Content & New Networks

05/27/2024

Comcast NBCUniversal is committed to showcasing the significant cultural and societal contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities throughout the year. May provides a special opportunity to amplify AANHPI stories both on-screen and beyond, celebrating the rich diversity of the Asian diaspora and highlighting its remarkable achievements in media, entrepreneurship, digital equity, education, and more.

Xfinity
Xfinity TV customers can explore thousands of hours of top-quality Asian and Asian American entertainment through Xfinity On Demand, which features a curated collection themed "Ascend." This theme celebrates the AANHPI community's ongoing efforts to rise, progress, and enhance representation on and off screen, showcasing a selection of critically acclaimed and award-winning shows and films featuring Asian talent and narratives.

This year's collection includes curations by special guest editors such as Lee Sung Jin, director of the hit series BEEF; Sarayu Blue; Malia Pyles; and Gordon Cormier. Additionally, for the first time, our impact partners—including Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), Asian & Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), and the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL)—are contributing their own curated selections. Recommendations also come from Comcast’s Asian Pacific Americans Employee Resource Group.

For the fourth year in a row, Comcast is partnering with Gold House, a nonprofit collective of Asian founders, creators, and leaders advocating for authentic multicultural representation and societal equity. This collaboration features AANHPI movie and TV recommendations for this month, as well as the prestigious Gold House A100 List, highlighting influential cultural leaders and changemakers. We are also partnering with the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) to present seven complimentary independent AANHPI films through CAAMFest.

"We are excited to work with Gold House, CAAM, and our impact partners to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month by offering our customers more curated content than ever before," said Caroline Kim, Senior Director, Multicultural Video & Entertainment, Xfinity Consumer Services.

As one of the leading distributors of multicultural programming in the nation, we are dedicated to celebrating the AANHPI community throughout the year, with a special focus during this important cultural time to highlight the finest and most diverse AANHPI programming and entertainment available to our customers.

Customers can explore new networks such as AsianCrush and RetroCrush on the platform. Additionally, they can personalize their X1 device with the new Themes feature, offering icons like a lucky cat, hibiscus, or yoga motifs.

In celebration of AANHPI Heritage Month, we expanded our entertainment collection. Starting the week of April 29th, networks like Hi-YAH! and KOCOWA were included in our “Free this Week” program, which began last year. This initiative provides customers with a rotating selection of free content from top streaming services and premium networks each week, with no subscription required.

Xfinity TV customers can access this curated collection year-round by simply saying “Asian American” into the Xfinity Voice Remote. The collection is accessible on Xfinity X1, Xfinity Stream, Xfinity Flex, and Xumo Stream Box.
