DP World Callao Earns Peru Brand License for Trade Excellence

DP World, a leading global provider of logistics and supply chain solutions, has become the first port terminal operator in Peru to earn the prestigious Peru Brand license.

DP World Callao, the operator of the South Pier at the Port of Callao, was granted the license by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PromPeru) under its Peru Brand Licensee Program. This recognition highlights the terminal’s significant contributions to Peru’s international trade, particularly in supporting national exports, investments, and promoting Peru’s image worldwide.

The announcement was made during a visit to the South Pier by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, PromPeru’s Executive President, Ricardo Limo, and Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World for Peru and Ecuador. The Peru Brand license celebrates DP World’s 18-year legacy in Callao, marked by substantial investment in and management of Peru’s largest port concession.

Carlos Merino expressed his gratitude, stating: "Receiving the Peru Brand license is a privilege and acknowledges our unwavering commitment to Peru’s progress. At the historic Port of Callao, we are dedicated to enhancing trade infrastructure. This year, we opened the Bicentennial Pier, a $400 million investment that underscores our dedication to boosting the nation's competitiveness."

Between January and October 2024, DP World Callao handled 1.63 million TEUs, maintaining its position as the busiest port terminal in Peru and on track to exceed its 2023 record of 1.64 million TEUs. As the only terminal in Peru equipped to accommodate 400-meter-long vessels and simultaneously manage three large ships, it has significantly strengthened Peru’s port efficiency. Additionally, the terminal directly employs over 1,100 people and indirectly supports more than 10,000 jobs.

Minister Desilú León commended the achievement, saying: "Awarding the Peru Brand license to DP World Callao highlights their vital role as a partner in Peru’s foreign trade sector. Joining over 800 licensees from industries like exports, tourism, and gastronomy, this distinction reflects national pride and our shared identity."

Recognized as an official symbol of the Peruvian state since 2012, the Peru Brand aims to foster national pride and identity. Through the Licensee Program, PromPeru honors individuals and organizations that contribute to enhancing tourism, exports, investments, education, and Peru’s global reputation.
