DP World Joins Net Zero Supply Chain Initiative for Decarbonizing Canada's Freight
DP World, a global leader in supply chain solutions, is excited to participate as a Pilot Partner in the Net Zero Supply Chain (NZSC) Initiative. This collaborative effort aims to decarbonize Canada's freight-transportation supply chains.
Launched by GLOBE Series, Delphi, and 7GEN, the NZSC Initiative seeks to transform Canada's freight-transportation sector. It brings together key retail and transportation leaders to design and implement Canada's first net-zero supply chain pilot. Currently in Phase 2, the initiative is set to complete this phase by summer.
Carol-Ann Brown, President of Delphi, stated: “The focus on moving freight and goods from port terminals to retail stores offers a holistic approach to decarbonization. This will result in a scalable and replicable roadmap for other organizations, accelerating the transition to net-zero logistics.”
DP World joins other prominent organizations such as ABB, BC Hydro, CN Rail, Innovate BC, and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority to develop a cleaner, more efficient supply chain that benefits businesses, communities, and the environment.

- To create a quantifiable case study that promotes the commercial adoption of decarbonization technologies through a practical, data-driven pilot.

These objectives align with DP World’s Sustainability Strategy, “Our World, Our Future,” which focuses on decarbonization through the electrification of port and terminal equipment, investment in renewable energy, and research into alternative fuels and vehicles.

The NZSC Initiative is progressing in three phases:
- Phase 1: Established common objectives and goals, including the aim to transport a shipment from the Port of Vancouver to a retail store within a 100-kilometer radius using net-zero technologies. Insights from this local project are being applied to develop a cross-Canada net-zero transportation pilot.
- Phase 2: Currently focuses on scoping the local project, identifying the freight transportation route, key equipment for testing, and decarbonization strategies. This phase will calculate potential emission reductions and develop a decarbonization roadmap, concluding this summer.
- Phase 3: Will implement the local net-zero pilot project. Lessons from this phase will be used to expand the pilot to include shipments from the West Coast to Eastern Canada. This phase will address barriers to net-zero technology implementation and develop data governance and change management frameworks to accelerate adoption, starting by September 2024.
