Chemours, a global company in the field of chemistry, has collaborated with the National Safety Council, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to safety advocacy in the United States, to introduce the Diversity in Safety Scholarship, sponsored by Chemours. This scholarship is designed to assist students enrolled in undergraduate programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in launching their careers in safety.

Ron Charles, Chief People Officer for Chemours, expressed the company's commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce, emphasizing the importance of promoting diversity within the field of safety. According to Charles, prioritizing safety is a core value at Chemours, and supporting the development of diverse leaders is seen as a significant step towards creating safer workplaces.

In alignment with the goal of cultivating a workforce that reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of the United States, the scholarship will provide five academic awards of $5,000 each to individuals of color pursuing undergraduate degrees at HBCUs and HSIs.

“Today’s workforce is more diverse than ever before. Fostering a community of safety leaders who reflect this diversity is imperative to making our workers safer,” said Lorraine Martin, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “Additionally, increasing the number of diverse safety professionals in workplaces – big and small, local and global – equitably benefits the health, wellbeing and safety of workers everywhere. At NSC, we wholeheartedly believe that and commend Chemours for their investment in safety through this new scholarship, which will support the NSC mission of making people safer and saving lives.”

Available to incoming or currently enrolled freshmen, these scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years. The application period for the Diversity in Safety Scholarship, supported by Chemours, is currently open and will continue until March 31, 2024.
