Recently, employees at Entergy united to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through a series of events spanning our service regions, we demonstrated our dedication to supporting communities in need. Collaborating with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and Healthy, our team packed 200,000 meals for distribution to Louisiana families grappling with food insecurity. This joint endeavor not only allowed us to fulfill our mission of aiding our customers, neighbors, and families in distress but also made a significant impact in combating hunger across Louisiana.
Highlighting the severity of the issue, Patty Riddlebarger, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility for Entergy, referenced recent research from the ALICE project indicating that over 50 percent of Louisiana households struggle to afford basic necessities, including nutritious meals. She emphasized Entergy's commitment to addressing food insecurity through partnerships and community service initiatives, in line with our tribute to Dr. King's legacy.
Entergy Mississippi also honored Dr. King's memory by teaming up with Boss Lady Workforce Transportation to distribute energy efficiency kits to more than 400 customers. These kits are designed to help lower energy consumption and reduce utility bills, furthering our efforts to support our communities.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously stated, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" At Entergy, we embrace this ethos, believing in the power of collective action to effect positive change and uplift those in need.
We are immensely proud to have been recognized as a 2023 honoree of The Civic 50 for the eighth consecutive year. This prestigious accolade from Points of Light acknowledges our unwavering commitment to community engagement and the tireless efforts of our employees to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our customers and neighbors.
