Georgia-Pacific Partners with Green Bay Fire Department for Training and Emergency Response

Georgia-Pacific has maintained a strong partnership with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department for many years. Currently, 75 Georgia-Pacific employees are part of the department’s Fire Brigade, a volunteer group that has been active for over 70 years. This brigade conducts confined space rescues and responds to workplace emergencies, such as fires and medical incidents, at our facilities.

The collaboration has expanded over time to include the exchange of training and expertise. Georgia-Pacific works alongside the city to offer training for first responders at our 5,000-square-foot Broadway facility. This space provides a realistic environment for first responders to practice, simulating the types of emergencies they regularly encounter.

“The Green Bay Fire Department greatly values the chance to train in an industrial setting,” said Vaughn Edsall, Security Manager in Green Bay. “In turn, the first responders offer essential training to our Fire Brigade. This partnership is mutually beneficial, benefiting not only Georgia-Pacific and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department but also other nearby fire departments, as we have opened our facility to local first responder teams for training.”

In addition, Georgia-Pacific and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department have worked together to create a comprehensive “Active Aggressor Response and Recovery” (A2R2) plan. This plan includes specialized training for both Georgia-Pacific employees and local first responders. It outlines the coordinated actions of community resources during and after an emergency. The development of this plan has led to significant improvements in emergency response capabilities at the Green Bay facility and the surrounding area. By combining their unique expertise and resources, Georgia-Pacific and its partners ensure rapid support for those in need during a crisis.

Battalion Chief Chad Bronkhorst emphasized the value of the partnership to the Green Bay Fire Department: “We truly appreciate Georgia-Pacific’s involvement in our community and the company’s emergency response team. We look forward to continuing our training together.”

Georgia-Pacific recognizes the crucial role first responders play in safeguarding its operations and the broader community. We are committed to supporting these organizations to ensure the safety of our facilities and employees, while also contributing to the professional development of those who serve our communities. Our initiatives with first responders in Green Bay and across the country help improve training, promote capital improvements, and enhance overall community safety, all of which are vital for both workplace and community well-being.
