Global Partnership Tackles Washing Divide: Whirlpool Foundation & The Washing Machine Project Impact Lives

10/04/2024

Earlier this year, The Washing Machine Project, a grassroots organization dedicated to providing off-grid manual washing machines to low-income and displaced communities, announced a partnership with the Whirlpool Foundation. This collaboration aims to deliver thousands of manual washing machines to households around the globe over the next five years, benefiting an estimated 150,000 people and addressing a major obstacle to their quality of life. Termed the ‘Global Washing Divide’ by both organizations, the initiative seeks to support the 60% of the global population—or 5 billion people—who still wash clothes by hand.

Navjot Sawhney, the founder of The Washing Machine Project, and Deb O'Connor, Managing Director of the Whirlpool Foundation, recently appeared on Purpose360 to share how this partnership came about, highlighting the strengths of each organization and the positive impact they are making together by improving lives and reclaiming valuable time for these communities.
