Even though, the transgender community has seen “significant wins” this year, the stigma attached to their community and the resulting “acts of violence” continues to shadow.

Dailycsr.com – 21 November 2020 – Google observed “Transgender Awareness Week” from 13 November to 19 November 2020, whereby empowering “transgender voices”, spreading awareness and highlighting “many challenges” faced by transgender individuals.

Even though, the transgender community has seen “significant wins” this year, the stigma attached to their community and the resulting “acts of violence” continues to shadow. November 20th is, therefore, celebrated as the “Transgender Day of Remembrance”, honouring the victims who fell prey to the above mentioned brutality.

Throughout the Google made efforts to “empower transgender community” in an attempt to demonstrate the possibility “when we celebrate and uplift stories of transgender people thriving”. As a result, Google introduced “a banner button” to its home page, which even though might seem simple has created an “immense impact” as on a daily basis over “3.5 billion Google searches” takes place.

Similarly, Google also highlighted apps that “support the trans and GNC” communities by promoting them in Google Play app. Furthermore, Google’s page titled “Stories” featured transgender individuals like “Marli Washington, founder of gc2b”. The latter deals with product development that cater specifically to “trans men and transmasculine people”.

Porter Novelli’s blog reminds:
“Recognition and support by brands for the transgender community is a necessity that is growing each year. In fact, our research shows that 67 percent of Americans and 75 percent of Gen Z expect companies like Google to address the issue of LGBTQ+ rights. While Google is one of the more notable brands celebrating Transgender Awareness Week this year, we expect to see increased efforts made to push more brands to provide tangible and substantive support to the transgender community moving forward”.
