Inspiring Reflections: Honoring Black History Beyond February

03/07/2024

Nearly a century ago, Carter G. Woodson, renowned as the "father of Black history," instituted what he termed as Negro History Week. His vision encompassed the integration of Black history into public school curricula, marking the second week of February for this purpose. Today, nearly a century later, his aspiration for inclusivity resonates through our actions and words, not solely confined to Black History Month but extending throughout the year.

Growing up as the daughter of a public school educator, Black History Month has played a pivotal role in my continuous journey of learning. This year, my focus lies on honoring the dreams of those who paved the way before me.
