Keysight Technologies Joins U.S. AI Safety Consortium for Trustworthy AI Development

03/08/2024

Keysight Technologies, Inc. has collaborated with prominent industry peers and key stakeholders in an initiative led by the U.S. Department of Commerce to promote the development and deployment of trustworthy and secure AI technologies. This initiative, facilitated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is known as the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC). The consortium aims to unite AI creators and users, alongside academics, government and industry researchers, and civil society organizations, with the objective of advancing this crucial mission.

Comprising over 200 member companies and organizations, the consortium encompasses entities deeply involved in the creation, validation, and utilization of AI systems. It also includes civil society and academic groups contributing to the foundational understanding of AI's societal impact. These members represent a spectrum of stakeholders, ranging from major corporations to innovative startups, from creators of cutting-edge AI systems to influential voices in civil society and academia, and from professionals deeply engaged in current AI applications.

The primary goal of the consortium is to develop scientifically grounded guidelines and standards for AI measurement and policy. These guidelines will serve as a framework to ensure the safety and reliability of AI technologies on a global scale.

As a leader in measurement science, Keysight leverages AI to enhance its advanced design, emulation, and testing solutions. The company collaborates with industry leaders to drive advancements in AI-enabled wireless communications testing, optimize wireless performance through AI techniques, and validate the hardware necessary for supporting AI cloud architectures in data centers. Additionally, Keysight plays a pivotal role in empowering industries such as aerospace & defense, automotive, energy, semiconductor, and computing to achieve higher performance and sustainability through the application of AI. The company actively participates in various standards and research initiatives aimed at validating AI systems, contributing to the maturation of this emerging field.

"The U.S. government has a significant role to play in setting the standards and developing the tools we need to mitigate the risks and harness the immense potential of artificial intelligence. President Biden directed us to pull every lever to accomplish two key goals: set safety standards and protect our innovation ecosystem. That's precisely what the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium is set up to help us do. Through President Biden's landmark Executive Order, we will ensure America is at the front of the pack – and by working with this group of leaders from industry, civil society, and academia, together we can confront these challenges to develop the measurements and standards we need to maintain America's competitive edge and develop AI responsibly," said Gina M. Raimondo, U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary.

"AI is a critical driver for many advancements in communications, defense, transportation, energy, electronics and computing, which makes it a highly relevant technology for Keysight and its customers. Our membership in AISIC is one of several engagements we have with industry partners, research organizations, standards bodies, and government in this exciting field. As a leading design, emulation, and test solutions provider, we stand ready to work with our AISIC peers to develop the measurements and standards to ensure the safety and trustworthiness of AI. This is an essential part of the role we are playing in this technology revolution," said Satish Dhanasekaran, Keysight’s Chief Executive Officer.
