Dailycsr.com – 27 January 2020 – If you were to look for Kimberly-Clark’s solar panel installation at Guatemala, you would be disappointed, yet the panels installed at the top of the roof are proving to be beneficial for both the company as well as the environment.
The above mentioned project will act as the power source for the distribution centre of the company along with its administrative buildings, while it holds a capacity to produce “250.6 megawatt hours per year” which is equivalent to “the annual consumption of 70 homes in the country”. As per estimates, this project would be saving nearly “127 tons of carbon dioxide” on an annual basis.
Moreover, the Kimberly-Clark Latin America also has an “environment-friendly alternative” in the form of biomass boilers, which helps to conserve energy in Brazil and El Salvador. The said attempt marks the first ever solar project of the company in Latin America. In the words of the Kimberly-Clark North Latin America’s vice president, Gonzalo Uribe:
“Our team Guatemala was motivated by our sustainability platform to positively impact the environment and the communities where we have operations. We have a big global goal to reduce emissions by 40% globally and it makes me proud that we are playing a part in meeting that goal”.
Given the geographic location of Guatemala, the country becomes an ideal spot for investing in solar energy. For this the company has teamed with “partners and the Kimberly-Clark global sustainability team”. Furthermore, the Kimberly-Clark Latin America’s president, Sergio Cruz added:
“As a leader in our industry, it’s our responsibility to continue making positive changes that improve the world around us. Investing in solar power and other energy conservation initiatives are another step in making that a reality.”
