Atlantic City Electric, the Drumthwacket Foundation, and Sustainable Jersey recognized 12 student teams for their innovative climate action projects addressing local climate change issues. The New Jersey Student Climate Challenge, funded by Atlantic City Electric, encourages high school and middle school students across New Jersey to develop and implement climate action projects, culminating in digital story videos showcasing their achievements.
At recent award ceremonies hosted by the Drumthwacket Foundation and attended by New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, winning student teams and their mentors were celebrated. The event was filled with anticipation as students awaited the announcement of their project rankings, while school administrators, teachers, and parents expressed pride and hope for the future of climate change mitigation.
Judges, including educators and representatives from non-profits, state agencies, and partner organizations, selected the winners. Successful schools received grants to further their climate education efforts. The event highlighted the students' innovative contributions to addressing climate change and reinforced Atlantic City Electric's commitment to supporting sustainable initiatives.
