Northern Trust’s Global Charity Trading Day: A Commitment to Philanthropy and Community Service

11/07/2023

Northern Trust recently conducted its second Charity Trading Day, a global event that supports four international charities in line with the firm’s philanthropic goals. The event is part of Northern Trust’s Achieving Greater Together initiative, which will contribute a total of $700,000 to the following organizations: Global Red Cross and Red Crescent Network, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), War Child, and World Central Kitchen.

In the upcoming year, Northern Trust’s employees and clients will dedicate thousands of volunteer hours to various projects run by these charities worldwide. This global initiative, spearheaded by Northern Trust Asset Servicing, is in line with the company’s ongoing commitment to community investment, aiming to provide more opportunities for marginalized individuals to achieve long-term financial success.

Pete Cherecwich, president of Northern Trust Asset Servicing, stated, "Our inaugural Charity Trading Day in 2022 supported the global housing non-profit Habitat for Humanity International, with our employees also contributing numerous volunteer hours. This year, we are thrilled to broaden our impact in our communities by supporting charities that align with all four pillars of Northern Trust’s philanthropic focus: accessible healthcare, affordable housing, educational excellence, and food security.”

The Charity Trading Day is a key component of the Asset Servicing business unit’s support for Northern Trust’s philanthropic strategy. The event involved hundreds of Asset Servicing employees in various roles, from trading and operations to client servicing and compliance. The event spanned across Capital Markets trading desks starting in Sydney, then moving to Singapore, London, and finally Chicago.

Guy Gibson, global head of Northern Trust Capital Markets, Banking & Treasury Services, expressed gratitude for the invaluable support from clients and trading partners in raising awareness for these worthy causes. He also thanked the employees who volunteered during the Achieving Greater Together month.

After the October service month, employees will have further opportunities to volunteer for these charities alongside clients through 2024, reflecting Northern Trust’s commitment to giving back to the communities where they live and work.
