Olympic House Enters The List of Most Sustainable Buildings Across The Globe

IOC pioneers in sustainable leadership in the field of “international sports” by demonstrating “tremendous green building leadership”.


Dailycsr.com – 25 June 2019 – The International Olympic Committee’s new headquarters received three “most rigorous sustainable building certifications”, whereby joining in the list of the “most sustainable buildings in the world”.
 
One of the recognition has been the “LEED Platinum”, “the highest certification level of the international LEED green building programme”. Moreover, the Olympic House has scored “the most points” that any “LEED v4-certified new construction project” has ever received.
 
LEED has over “98,000 registered and certified projects” all over the countries and serves as “international symbol of sustainability excellence” for “green building programme” worldwide. LEED certifies buildings lower “carbon emissions”, converse resources, prioritise “sustainable practices” and creates a “healthier environment”.
 
Furthermore, the Olympic House has also bagged the “highest (Platinum) level of the Swiss Sustainable Construction Standard” besides the award for “Swiss standard for energy-efficient buildings, Minergie P”. The Olympic House has become the first ever building that received “these three certifications, and the first in Switzerland to achieve LEED v4 Platinum”. In the words of president of the IOC, Thomas Bach:
“We are proud that Olympic House, as the new home of the Olympic Movement, has received such prestigious Swiss and international certifications, recognising our strong commitment to sustainability, which is one of the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020. From the very beginning of the original architecture competition all the way through to construction, energy management and furnishings, the IOC focused very much on sustainable solutions. We are happy that our investment in sustainability has led to receiving these three certifications.”
 
While, the “HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Chair of the IOC Sustainability and Legacy Commission” said:
“The new Olympic House combines symbolism, functionality and sustainability. With the achievement of unmatched standard levels, it demonstrates how the IOC is turning its sustainability commitments into action, serving as an inspiration for the entire Olympic Movement.”
 
The president as well as the chief executive of “the U.S. Green Building Council”, Mahesh Ramanujam, said:
“LEED v4 was designed to be the most rigorous green building rating system in the world. From improving energy performance to emphasising human health and integrative building design, LEED v4 is encouraging project teams to operate beyond the status quo. Olympic House’s LEED Platinum certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership and sets the IOC apart as a leader in sustainability in the international sports world.”
