Dailycsr.com – 23 July 2015 – The Company of Panasonic has donated Solar Lanterns for the regions hit by the epidemic of Ebola, reports Business Wire, from Osaks, Japan. On the 17th July 2015, the Panasonic Corporation made the announcement of the donation of “3,000 solar lanterns”. The contributions were made towards the west-African countries that are struck by Ebola, including Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Moreover, this is not the first time that the Panasonic Corporation indulged themselves in such human welfare activities. In the December of 2014, the company had already “donated 240 lanterns”. The responsibility, to deliver the goods to the Ebola-victims, lies on the shoulders of U.N.D.P. namely the “United Nations Development Programme”.
At present bringing the outbreak of the epidemic “Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever” under control is no longer the sole responsibility of Africa. It require a global and immediate attention, whereby gaining a “global importance”. The world need to seek an efficient method of treatment for quick recovery of the Ebola affected patients. The efficient medical treatment implies that it needs to continue with the same vigour and energy throughout the day and night in emergency scenarios. However, many such regions affected by Ebola, does not have electricity facilities. Moreover, each and every belonging of the affected patients are subjects to be destroyed, the medical crew has to constantly look out for “new sources of light”.
Therefore the solar lanterns donated to Ebola medical camps are fitted with “solar panels, storage batteries, and LEDs”. Consequently, they are able to store energy and convert it into LED light source. The solar lanterns are designed to last for six to eight hours at night. As mentioned earlier, the lanterns are to reach community workers, medical attendances along with the survivors. In fact, the latter who comes back from the “near-death” experience looses everything including job and his belonging. It is a price they pay in exchange of their lives.
Furthermore, the lanterns will also reach the vulnerable family members of the victims like children, women and disabled personnel. Business Wire writes that:
