Saint-Gobain Achieves 49% Waste Reduction with Sustainability Milestones

12/05/2024

Saint-Gobain North America, through its CertainTeed Roofing division, has successfully reduced landfill waste at its Shreveport facility by 49% in the past year. This achievement was made possible by constructing a new recycling area designed to separate waste materials and minimize cross-contamination, significantly expanding the site's recycling capabilities and cutting the volume of waste sent to landfills.

Recognized as one of Saint-Gobain North America's top sustainability initiatives in 2023, this project aligns with the company's global Grow and Impact strategy, which sets ambitious environmental goals, including achieving zero waste-to-landfill across all operations.

The Shreveport plant, operating for nearly a century, implemented incremental measures to reduce its environmental impact. Among these was the construction of containment areas using steel salvaged from on-site demolition projects, ensuring effective segregation and recycling of waste materials.

“As a leader in light and sustainable construction, minimizing our environmental footprint is central to our mission,” said Carmen Bodden, President of CertainTeed Roofing. “This landfill reduction project serves as a model for other facilities. Congratulations to Shannan McKinnon and the entire Shreveport team for showcasing how we Make the World a Better Home.”
This initiative builds on several other recent sustainability milestones for Saint-Gobain:
