Dailycsr.com – 26 November 2020 – 2020 has opened our eyes to “a deeper societal conversation” about the systemic racism that dwells in the U.S. Likewise, Sands also joined in the conversation with its Team Members which has now taken a shape of an “enhanced effort” to indorse “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”, in short DEI, even through community partnerships and investments.
From June, the leadership team at Sands carried out dialogue with Team Members about the current efforts undertaken by Sands to address “DEI issues” besides discussing about the “next steps” under the same initiative. In the words of the Senior Vice-President of ‘Global Communications and Corporate Affairs’ as well as the Chair of DEI Council at Sands, Ron Reese:
“Sands has always maintained DEI policies and practices, and we’ve invested in organizations that empower diverse groups in our community. But, on the heels of the race-related events of this year, we knew it was time to do more.”
After the above mentioned sessions, the DEI Council of Sands began to develop a “roadmap” which will guide the company in studying, planning, and implementing new measures addressing “today’s needs and viewpoints”. According to the press release of Sands:
“On November 19, Sands announced an additional $400,000 investment in community organizations working to empower minority and ethnically diverse groups through Sands Cares, the company’s community engagement and charitable giving program”.
Sands’ strategy to remove “systemic racism barriers” focusses on two main areas:

Moreover, Sands Cares is also donating “$250,000 to Nevada Partners” as its contribution towards “youth empowerment programs in the West Las Vegas Promise Neighborhood”. Furthermore, it is also giving “$100,000 to 100 Black Men of Las Vegas” which will be used for “youth mentoring programs” as well as “COVID-19 Community Personal Protective Equipment program”.
