California's electric utilities have the authority to implement Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) to temporarily cut power in specific areas during extreme weather, reducing the risk of fires caused by electrical infrastructure.
Due to current weather forecasts, one or more California utilities have informed T-Mobile that a PSPS will be implemented from January 7, 2025, through January 11, 2025, in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura.
Our top priority is to ensure our customers stay connected. Thanks to our network of backup towers and generators, most customers should not experience disruptions in their T-Mobile service during a PSPS. However, power outages may still cause temporary service interruptions.
T-Mobile is actively monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with California's power providers. We recommend customers take the following steps to prepare for potential PSPS events:
Follow your local utility on social media for real-time updates: Southern California Edison San Diego Gas & Electric Charge all devices fully. Consider purchasing an external battery charger that doesn’t require an outlet, and ensure it is also fully charged. Enable Wi-Fi Calling on your phone, which can allow calls if cellular service is unavailable but Wi-Fi is still functional: For Apple phones: Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling. For Android phones: Go to Settings > More Connection Settings > Wi-Fi Calling. When activating Wi-Fi Calling for the first time, you’ll need to provide your primary street address for emergency purposes ("Your E911 Registered Address"). This address may be shared with the 911 center to assist emergency responders. If your location changes, update your E911 Registered Address via your MyT-Mobile.com account or by contacting T-Mobile Customer Care.
