Volunteers clean up a river and remove invasive dams.

The San Gabriel River in the Angeles National Forest north of Arcadia has become a popular destination for picnickers and swimmers, who frequently bathe in pools formed by crude man-made dams of rocks and logs. The dams obstruct the flow of the river and endanger the endangered Santa Ana sucker. They also obstruct flood control efforts and attract trash from recreational users.

Volunteers from Edison International have recently joined ongoing efforts to clean up the river and remove invasive dams. The event celebrated National Public Lands Day and was part of Edison International's $350,000 grant to the National Forest Foundation this year, bringing the organization's total donation to $2.25 million since 2010.
