Webster Bank Partners with TASC to Launch Finance Lab for Financial Literacy in Massachusetts

01/13/2025

Webster Bank, in collaboration with Associates for Human Services’ Taunton Area School to Career (TASC) program, recently celebrated the launch of the Webster Bank/TASC Finance Lab. This initiative is designed to equip local students with essential skills for financial empowerment and long-term financial health. As the first partnership of its kind in Massachusetts, the program is supported by a $100,000 grant from Webster Bank, part of a broader $1.7 million investment the Bank has made in Finance Labs across its service areas.

The Webster/TASC Finance Lab is a key component of Webster's broader effort to enhance financial literacy and empowerment in low- to moderate-income (LMI) communities. The grant will help TASC integrate financial literacy into various programs, including internships, mentorship opportunities, and services for students with disabilities and special education needs. Additionally, TASC will host a financial literacy event in March 2025 for up to 200 students.

“We are excited to partner with Taunton Area School to Career to launch our first Finance Lab in Massachusetts,” said Marissa Weidner, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at Webster Bank. “Webster is dedicated to supporting programs that expand financial empowerment and contribute to the economic vitality of the communities we serve.”

Earlier this year, Webster Bank also opened Finance Labs in Hartford and Waterbury, Connecticut, and recently announced new partnerships in Providence, Rhode Island, Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Long Island, New York.

“TASC has long been committed to helping youth succeed by connecting them with business and higher education opportunities. State funding for the program can vary each year, and this grant has been instrumental in allowing us to retain staff and continue to support students from all backgrounds in achieving their full potential,” said Zulmira Allcock, President and CEO of Associates for Human Services.

Local dignitaries, including Taunton Mayor Shaunna O’Connell and TASC participant Brianna Gomes, joined Webster leaders to officially open the Finance Lab. Program participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences, including internships and financial literacy workshops, led by Webster Bank volunteers.
