01/28/2025

Whirlpool Corporation has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI) for the third year in a row and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the 18th time. These indices recognize global sustainability leaders based on evaluations conducted by S&P Global through its Corporate Sustainability Assessment.

Marc Bitzer, Chairman and CEO of Whirlpool Corporation, commented, “Our ongoing presence in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index reflects our commitment to improving life at home.” He added, “Rooted in transparency and ethical practices, and dedicated to the communities where we operate, our employees strive to design and manufacture innovative, increasingly sustainable home appliances that unite families worldwide.”

Whirlpool Corp. has long been a pioneer in global sustainability. A recent breakthrough, SlimTech™ insulation technology—the first vacuum-insulated structure (VIS) technology introduced in North America—revolutionizes refrigerator design by increasing capacity by up to 25% while utilizing materials that can potentially be reclaimed. Last year, SlimTech™ was honored with an “Innovation by Design” award from Fast Company.

This acknowledgment further underscores Whirlpool Corp.'s enduring commitment to sustainable products and practices. Through its Design for Sustainability framework, the company integrates reliability, repairability, and durability into product development, enhancing sustainability without compromising performance and minimizing waste and pollution. Whirlpool is on track to achieve Net Zero emissions in its operations by 2030 (scopes 1 and 2) and to cut emissions from products in use (scope 3 category 11) by 20% by 2030, based on 2016 levels.

Whirlpool Corp. also improves life at home through its support of homeownership and community development. This is exemplified by its 25-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity, which has positively impacted over a million people globally. The company has donated more than $140 million and over 241,000 appliances for Habitat homes. In the U.S., Habitat’s BuildBetter with Whirlpool program has constructed 260 climate-resilient, energy-efficient homes for families in need of safe, affordable housing. These homes are designed to endure climate disasters and feature energy-efficient appliances, demonstrating that climate resilience can be both practical and affordable.

In 2024, the Whirlpool Foundation began supporting The Washing Machine Project, which provides manual washing machines to underserved communities. This initiative benefits millions of women and girls worldwide, who often bear the burden of handwashing clothes, freeing up valuable time for education, work, and personal growth.

Whirlpool Corp. has earned several prestigious accolades for these efforts, including being named a Top Corporate Citizen of 2024, one of the best workplaces for parents and disability inclusion, and securing a place on Fortune’s list of the Most Admired Companies.

The DJSI, which includes the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), was introduced in 1999 as a leading global sustainability benchmark series. It includes global, regional, and national indices.
