Empowering Future Leaders: Insights from Atlantic City Electric's Summer Internship

08/19/2024

We are dedicated to nurturing the future leaders of the utility industry. Our summer internship program offers students the chance to gain practical experience, enhance their professional skills, and build meaningful connections within our company. Through hands-on projects and mentorship, our interns are empowered to make significant contributions and grow both personally and professionally.

Haley Piasecki, one of our outstanding summer interns, recently shared her experiences and insights with us.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Haley Piasecki, and I’m from Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey. I’m currently entering my junior year, pursuing a degree in Integrated Business with a minor in Political Science at Pennsylvania Western University at California.

Q: Where did you intern this summer?
This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with the Performance Assessment Group at Atlantic City Electric.

Q: What were some of the highlights of your internship?
During my internship, I had the chance to meet many new people who generously shared their knowledge with me. Collaborating with different teams allowed me to understand how various departments work together to drive the company's growth.

Q: Can you describe a particularly impactful experience?
One of the most impactful experiences was a ride-along with the safety team and company leaders, where we observed the routes taken by troublemen to monitor fires in New Jersey. It was truly inspiring to meet women in leadership roles at Exelon.

Q: What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
At first, stepping into a predominantly engineering-focused environment was intimidating, especially with all the unfamiliar terminology. However, I learned to embrace confusion and ask questions, which has been essential for my innovation and personal growth.

Q: How has this internship helped you grow?
My internship at Atlantic City Electric has provided a valuable space for me to grow both personally and professionally. My confidence in public speaking has significantly improved, thanks to the engaging intern program. I’ve also made friends from across the United States and gained important insights into the utility and engineering industries.
