AMD’s Commitment to Community and Hunger Relief
At AMD, we strive to develop innovative technologies that enhance the world around us. Beyond our technological advancements, we are deeply committed to supporting communities through corporate giving and employee volunteer efforts.
Addressing the Hunger Crisis
For over four decades, AMD employees have actively contributed to their communities, regularly volunteering and fundraising to support various causes. One key focus has been partnering with local food banks to help ensure access to essential resources, including nutritious meals, for those in need worldwide.
The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated global hunger, with a sharp rise in food insecurity from 2019 to 2020. According to the Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFIO) report, these high levels of hunger have remained consistent in the years following. In 2023, approximately 733 million people faced hunger, while 2.3 billion experienced moderate to severe food insecurity.
Collaboration with Rise Against Hunger
In 2022, AMD expanded its hunger relief efforts by partnering with Rise Against Hunger, a nonprofit dedicated to providing nutrient-rich, volunteer-packed meals to support education and health in regions experiencing severe food insecurity. Through this collaboration, AMD organized meal packaging events across multiple countries, engaging employees in hands-on efforts to combat hunger. Over the past three years, this partnership has grown substantially. In 2023 alone, more than 2,500 AMD employees packed over 450,000 meals across 13 different locations.
In Malaysia, AMD extended its initiative by inviting students from INTI International College Penang to participate in a meal packaging event. Reflecting on the experience, Lee Yong Ong, a Financial Analyst at AMD in Penang, shared: “This event was more than just a few hours of volunteering. It was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. Each meal we packaged represents a beacon of hope for someone struggling with hunger.”
The meals prepared by AMD volunteers were distributed through Rise Against Hunger to communities affected by economic challenges, environmental issues, and humanitarian crises.
Looking Ahead to 2025
AMD remains dedicated to the fight against global hunger. Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our employees, we have made a meaningful impact. As we move forward, we aim to reach a major milestone in 2025—packaging our one-millionth meal in partnership with Rise Against Hunger.
