08/22/2024

The Duke Energy Foundation marks its 40-year milestone by awarding $40,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving Florida. Each of these four organizations will receive a $10,000 grant to bolster their efforts in enhancing and empowering communities throughout the Sunshine State.

Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida's state president, remarked, "For forty years, the Duke Energy Foundation has been dedicated to funding crucial initiatives across Florida. In celebration of this significant anniversary, we are proud to support deserving nonprofit organizations that are making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of our community members."

The grants have been allocated as follows:
  • Feeding Florida – $10,000
  • Florida State Park Foundation – $10,000
  • American Red Cross – $10,000
  • Prospera (Hispanic Business Initiative Fund) – $10,000

Feeding Florida's nine member food banks serve over 2,400 local charitable agencies, ensuring that individuals and families in need receive essential food supplies, contributing to a hunger-free Florida.

Robin Safley, Executive Director of Feeding Florida, expressed gratitude, stating, "The Duke Energy Foundation shares our commitment to uplifting Florida's communities. We are privileged to be selected as a grant recipient for their 40th anniversary celebration. Duke Energy's focus on increasing access to nutritious food will enable our food banks to extend their services to more families across Florida."

Prospera specializes in economic development, providing bilingual support to Hispanic entrepreneurs seeking to start or expand businesses, thereby fostering community growth and prosperity.

“Being selected by Duke Energy as a special anniversary grant recipient in Florida is an honor, evidence of the trust developed during our long-standing collaboration, and another example of their generous support of small businesses and the Hispanic community,” said Augusto Sanabria, Prospera president and CEO. “We congratulate the Duke Energy Foundation on its 40th anniversary and remain committed to being diligent stewards of their investments in our mission to help start, sustain and grow Hispanic-owned businesses to achieve community prosperity.”
