Flood Warning System Development in England: Leidos Partners with Environment Agency

05/21/2024

Leidos, an innovative company listed in the Fortune® 500, has recently secured a prime contract from the Environment Agency (EA) to develop a new flood warning system for England. Valued at around £24 million, the contract spans an initial six-year period.

"With approximately 5.7 million properties in England facing the risk of flooding in 2024, the importance of an updated flood warning system cannot be overstated. Our collaboration with Leidos, renowned for its expertise in critical system development for various UK government sectors, signals a significant step towards bolstering flood resilience," stated Eric Freeman, Chief Executive at Leidos UK & Europe.

For over two decades, the EA has relied on its current system to disseminate flood warning alerts to the public, partners, and media. Leidos will spearhead the development of the new system, in partnership with Cogworx, a design consultancy emphasizing user-centric solutions, and Intersec, a company specializing in mobile data and location intelligence solutions.

The upgraded system will incorporate enhanced geospatial services, seamless integration with contemporary social media platforms and mobile devices, and expanded messaging capabilities tailored for registered users. Upon its launch, Leidos will oversee the management of the service for an initial period of four and a half years. Throughout this phase, Leidos will prioritize implementing service enhancements to better cater to user requirements.
