Andriaki and Arbor Day Foundation Plant 1 Million Trees for Carbon Offset and Reforestation
Over the last year, Andriaki collaborated with Arbor Day Carbon — a subsidiary of the Arbor Day Foundation — to promote verified carbon credits and implement large-scale reforestation efforts in the Mississippi River Alluvial Valley. This initiative resulted in the planting of one million native trees across regions of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

These efforts were carried out with the help of GreenTrees, Arbor Day Carbon’s local partner and supplier of carbon credits. GreenTrees holds the distinction of being the largest reforestation carbon credit program globally, based on credits issued. The trees were planted on previously deforested land, primarily cleared in past decades for agricultural use such as corn, cotton, and soybean production. With over two decades of experience in the region, GreenTrees has collaborated with more than 600 landowners to rehabilitate upwards of 140,000 acres of private forestlands.

“This partnership underscores the urgent need to restore vital ecosystems and shows strong leadership in addressing our environmental impact,” stated Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Andriaki continues to lead with innovation and a commitment to environmental progress that benefits both forests and local communities.”

Since its founding in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has planted over 500 million trees globally in both community and forest settings. The Foundation leverages its worldwide partnerships to support organizations in achieving measurable sustainability milestones through forestry projects.

Andriaki began working with the Arbor Day Foundation in 2021 to further their mutual objectives around sustainable, large-scale tree planting. Their combined efforts are designed to enhance water quality, offer alternative revenue options to landowners, and reestablish habitats for vulnerable wildlife — all aligning with Andriaki’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.

Beyond this specific partnership, Andriaki continues to embrace environmental responsibility across the maritime sector. The company has adopted innovative technologies and vessels aimed at reducing carbon emissions, reinforcing their long-term sustainability mission.

The Mississippi River Alluvial Valley, situated in the Southeastern U.S., was once a flourishing floodplain forest supporting diverse species. However, centuries of farming and land development have significantly degraded the ecosystem. According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, over 75% of the original riparian forest has been lost, greatly impacting the habitat of many wildlife species — including 60% of North America’s migratory birds that rely on the Mississippi River during their migrations.
