Meet the 2024 GameChanger Stay & Play Champions: Empowering Youth Through Sports
The Aspen Institute reports that today's average child spends less than three years engaged in sports, often quitting by age 11, with some marginalized groups dropping out even earlier. This concerning trend highlights the urgent need for programs that encourage continued participation in youth sports.

In response, GameChanger, the top-rated youth sports app for live streaming, scheduling, and scorekeeping, and a subsidiary of DICK’S Sporting Goods, has introduced its first Stay & Play Champions program. This initiative assembles a team of five exceptional teen athletes from across the nation who are dedicated to helping young people in their communities access and remain involved in sports. Each Champion was selected by a partnering non-profit for their leadership in community sports, commitment to reducing barriers for underrepresented athletes, and effectiveness in demonstrating their impact.

What Will the Champions Do?
  • GameChanger, along with their partnered non-profit, will support the Champions in organizing and executing two events aimed at promoting sustained sports participation in their local communities.
  • The Champions will also work to raise awareness about the challenges faced and share innovative strategies to help kids stay engaged in sports by meeting monthly to exchange insights and offer guidance to GameChanger’s leadership.

“At GameChanger, we see firsthand how youth sports positively impact lives,” said GameChanger Vice President of Community Rebecca Wasserman. “The Stay & Play Champions program is our way of amplifying the voice of youth athletes everywhere and ensuring they receive the support and resources they need to continue their athletic journey, overcome barriers, and thrive on and off the field. We’re excited to learn from this group of remarkable Champions and work together to promote the importance of sports in communities nationwide.”
