CNH's Regenerative Farming Efforts at Leckford: A Hub for Sustainability

CNH's Regenerative Farming Efforts at Leckford: A Hub for Sustainability
Bennamann, a UK-based clean energy firm, and its partner, New Holland Agriculture (a division of CNH Industrial), recently hosted a visit from Lord Richard Benyon, the Minister of the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), at the Leckford Estate of the John Lewis Partnership. During the visit, they emphasized how innovative clean energy technology developed in the UK is effectively capturing methane emissions from the partnership's cattle and converting it into fuel for tractors.

The capture of methane is crucial because it has an environmental impact over 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide in the first two decades of its existence. This underscores the importance of maintaining lower methane levels. Historically, farming has been a significant contributor to methane emissions, making the advanced technology developed by Bennamann and CNH groundbreaking, as it repurposes this harmful gas for sustainable applications.

Back in 2019, the John Lewis Partnership (JLP) announced its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 2050, demonstrating the company's strong dedication to reducing the environmental footprint of its farming activities.

“The fuel can also be converted into electricity for powering their farms, charging electric vehicles and or powering dairy equipment. This partnership demonstrates bold leadership by one of the UK’s most iconic retailers of how we can get to net zero, showcasing agriculture as the solution and not the problem,” said David Rapkins, Business Director of New Holland UK, Ireland, Nordics and Baltics while adding, “Not only are we looking to help farmers meet the 2027 deadline to cover lagoons, we are also finding a financial benefit by turning their waste into a commodity.”

This is a component of CNH's broader initiative to embrace regenerative farming and their aspiration to establish Leckford as a hub for promoting and developing regenerative farming techniques. The objective is to foster innovation, acquire knowledge, and disseminate information, aiding others in the adoption of practices that support ecological restoration and combat the effects of climate change.
