Vanguard Renewables, a prominent figure in the advancement of food and dairy waste-to-renewable energy projects in the United States, is honored to be named one of ten finalists for its exceptional contributions to Circular Technology by Reuters Events: Global Energy Transition Awards 2024.
With over a decade of expertise in clean energy innovation and solutions for organic materials, Vanguard Renewables® has established itself as a pioneer in the conversion of organics into renewable energy. Since its establishment in 2014, the company has grown from managing two facilities to an impressive 32 sites across the nation. Vanguard Renewables continues to expand its reach throughout the country with the aim of offering circular solutions to food and beverage manufacturers and retailers nationwide.
Neil H. Smith, the Chief Executive Officer at Vanguard Renewables, expressed his excitement about the company's innovative approach being recognized as a finalist for the 2024 Global Transition Award. He emphasized that this acknowledgment highlights Vanguard's dedication to sustainability and leadership in the organics-to-renewable energy sector. By adopting a circular approach, Vanguard Renewables not only minimizes waste but also contributes to a cleaner future powered by renewable resources.
Vanguard Renewables' circular solution involves recycling food and beverage waste from manufacturing and retail sectors through Farm Powered® anaerobic digestion into renewable natural gas. Companies like Polar Beverages and Cabot Creamery collaborate with Vanguard Renewables on this circular approach, recycling organic manufacturing byproducts at Farm Powered anaerobic digesters and purchasing renewable energy derived from their waste to power their operations. For instance, Cabot Creamery sources milk from a multigenerational dairy farm where organic material is recycled.
The Global Energy Transition Awards ceremony is scheduled for June 25, 2024, in New York, NY. Reuters Events emphasizes the importance of integrating integrity, independence, and bias-free principles into conversations about climate and sustainability.
Vanguard Renewables believes in the collaborative efforts of all industries to find holistic solutions and mitigation tools for climate change. In 2020, Vanguard Renewables joined forces with industry leaders Starbucks, Unilever, and Dairy Farmers of America to establish the Farm Powered Strategic Alliance. This alliance, comprising leading national and regional brands, is committed to promoting sustainability, reducing food waste, expanding renewable energy production, fostering circularity across industries, and supporting regenerative agriculture practices. Over the past four years, the alliance has grown to include more than twenty regional and national companies.
The Farm Powered anaerobic digestion facilities operated by the company are instrumental in decreasing on-farm greenhouse gas emissions. Through the conversion of inedible food and beverage materials along with dairy manure into renewable natural gas, the company actively aids in the decarbonization initiatives of food and beverage manufacturers and retailers. Furthermore, this process redirects materials away from less eco-friendly alternatives such as landfills or incinerators.
