Aflac Volunteers Help Provide 45,000 Meals for Food-Insecure Families in Georgia and Alabama
Over the past half-year, teams of Aflac employees have dedicated 134 collective hours to volunteering at Feeding the Valley Food Bank, part of the Feeding America network. Their efforts have resulted in nearly 45,000 meals provided to children and adults facing food insecurity in the Chattahoochee Valley spanning Georgia and Alabama — totaling over 53,800 pounds of food donated so far this year.

Aflac's ongoing partnership with Feeding the Valley includes a recent $290,000 contribution towards expanding its Midland, Georgia facility. This expansion features new amenities, including an air-conditioned volunteer area known as the Aflac Hunger Action Center, which now offers twice the space of its predecessor.

Frank Sheppard, President and CEO of Feeding the Valley, highlighted the impact: "Since 2017, our storage capacity has increased by 75%, enabling us to handle an additional 2 million pounds of dry food annually, alongside over 5 million pounds of lean meats and fresh produce. The expanded Aflac Hunger Action Center doubles our capacity to host community volunteers who assist in packaging and distributing food to those in need."

Last year alone, Feeding the Valley distributed more than 15 million pounds of food to individuals and partnered with over 350 food pantries across 17 Georgia counties and one in Alabama.

For the Aflac Sales Resolution team, volunteering at Feeding the Valley has become a regular commitment. During their recent outing, they packed 390 mobile pantry boxes and 80 buddy packs. Feeding the Valley's mobile pantries serve over 12,000 families monthly in areas with limited grocery access, while the Buddy Pack program provides crucial weekend meals to bridge gaps left by school meal programs.

Mike Tucker, Manager of Aflac Sales Resolution, expressed their team's sentiment: "Each time we volunteer, we feel a deep sense of fulfillment and community impact. It's not only a meaningful activity but also strengthens our team bonds."

Jon Sullivan, Director of Aflac Corporate Communications, echoed this sentiment, noting how volunteering at Feeding the Valley fosters team unity and tangible community support.

“Taking the afternoon recently to pack mobile pantry boxes at the new Aflac Hunger Action Center was hard work, but it was also a great experience for our team,” said Sullivan. “Not only were we able to help address a tremendous need within our community, but we also found great value in spending quality time together in service to others. We work as a team at the office every day, but realizing the difference our teamwork can make outside of our daily jobs was a true morale boost.”
