HR Technology & Leadership: Innovations, AI, and Career Growth

02/03/2025

Tell us a little about yourself, your career path, and what led you to your current role.
My name is Alec Erceg, and I currently serve as the Director of HR Technology & Operations at GoDaddy. Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow within the company, taking on various roles along the way. I initially joined as a Business Process Analyst, later advancing to Senior Manager of HR Technology before stepping into my current leadership position.

I’ve always been passionate about enhancing the employee experience through technology and exploring innovative ways to create a positive impact within the workplace.

What are some of the most exciting innovations you’ve brought to our HR technology strategy, and what impact have they had on the organization?
Our team has introduced several groundbreaking innovations over the years. One of the earliest major projects I worked on involved redesigning and streamlining our employee portal. This enterprise-wide initiative required close collaboration with multiple departments to ensure an intuitive and employee-friendly platform. We sought input from key stakeholders and conducted feedback sessions to align the portal with HR’s goals while prioritizing employees’ needs. As a result, we developed a self-service platform that completely redefined how employees engage with HR.

Building on this foundation, we have continuously enhanced the portal by incorporating features such as a Virtual Agent and a Manager Hub. Our ongoing mission is to provide a seamless and best-in-class experience by integrating technology in ways that genuinely support our people.

How do you see AI shaping the future of HR in the coming years?
The evolution of AI in HR is fascinating. Rather than an abrupt transformation, I believe AI adoption will be more gradual—akin to adjusting a dimmer switch—allowing organizations to implement changes in a controlled and strategic manner. As regulations and ethical considerations continue to develop, AI will increasingly assist with administrative tasks and operational efficiencies, freeing HR professionals to focus on more strategic initiatives.

AI is undoubtedly here to stay, and it’s essential for HR leaders to navigate its use responsibly, ensuring it aligns with the people-first nature of our work.

What keeps you motivated and inspired in your role?
The ever-changing landscape of HR presents new challenges each year, which keeps the work exciting and engaging. The continuous drive to refine processes and enhance employee experiences is a source of energy and motivation for me. I also enjoy staying up to date with industry trends and learning how others are tackling similar challenges.

GoDaddy fosters a culture of experimentation, allowing us to test new ideas and improve based on feedback. Additionally, I’m fortunate to work alongside an incredible team of problem solvers who specialize in both Operations and Technology. Their dedication to innovation and process optimization is truly inspiring.

What advice would you give to professionals looking to grow their careers in HR?
Embrace change and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. HR can sometimes become rooted in traditional methods, but challenging the status quo and asking the right questions can lead to meaningful improvements—not just for yourself but for your team and the company as a whole.

I strongly encourage seeking mentorship from someone whose insights and experience can help guide your career. Take charge of your own professional growth by leveraging available resources—whether it’s reading books, watching educational videos, or exploring other learning opportunities. Investing in continuous learning is key to long-term success.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family—my wife, Lizzy, our son, Hudson, and our dog, Chloe. Life with a toddler is always an adventure, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to watch him grow and explore the world.

One of my favorite pastimes is golf, even in the Arizona heat! Although I’m not musically inclined myself, I have a deep appreciation for music and have been curating a collection of vinyl records that I hope to pass down to my son one day.
