MetLife’s Commitment to Sustainability: Aligning with UN Goals and Driving Long-Term Value

07/19/2024

At MetLife, sustainability is about managing our business responsibly and supporting people throughout their lives. Our mission—Always with you, building a more confident future—guides our strategy and embodies the core commitment we make to our customers, employees, shareholders, and communities.

For our customers, we offer products and services that promote financial stability and health, while making investments that enable us to uphold our financial commitments. For our employees, we show our dedication through opportunities for career development, meaningful work, and a culture that values support and inclusivity. For the communities we serve, we strive to foster economic opportunities and prosperity.

By leveraging our people, products, services, and investments to meet our promises to stakeholders, we aim to generate long-term value for our shareholders. Additionally, we are committed to protecting the environment as a means of enhancing overall health and well-being.

For details on our approach to sustainability governance, please refer to Global Sustainability Governance.

Strategic Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals
To contribute to a sustainable future for both people and the planet, we have aligned our sustainability strategy with several of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are pertinent to our business (see Appendix for details):
  • Good Health and Well-Being
  • Gender Equality
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Reduced Inequalities
  • Climate Action
MetLife has also been a participant in the UN Global Compact (UNGC) since 2020. The UNGC advocates for a principles-based approach to integrity in human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
