Dailycsr.com – 16 January 2017 – The National Association of Town Watch honoured “Consumers Energy” with its “National Electric Utility Award”. The said award was given to Consumers Energy for the latter has participated in the “National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention program” of 2016.
The participation of Consumers Energy in its 33rd Annual Event, made it stand out as the only “electric provider” of the country to be recognised with this award, whereby making it the 23rd “straight year” that the company has been earning the due recognition. The “National Association of Town Watch” organisation’s National Project Coordinator, Matt A. Peskin, said:
“Companies such as Consumers Energy enable us to reach more and more communities with National Night Out each year. We are pleased to once again honor Consumers Energy with a national award, and we are proud to have it involved in this powerful, community-building campaign.”
On the 2nd of August 2016, Consumers Energy at its “Grand Rapids” Service Centre hosted various activities featuring “live radio and television broadcasts with local law enforcement agencies and media personalities to promote awareness of local drug and crime prevention programs”. Moreover, the company representatives along with its “local organizers” took part in distributing “CFL bulbs and refreshments” among the residents of “Grand Rapids-area”. The said early morning event was a grand affair wherein officials and leaders of government and legal branches of “Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood, Rockford, Walker, Wyoming and the Kent County Sheriff’s Department” were present to be part of it.
In the words of Electric Operations’ Vice President at Consumer Energy, Guy Packard:
“The purpose of National Night Out is to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention. Teaming up with local radio and television stations helps us promote that message. We appreciate the opportunity to work with local law enforcement agencies and other community organizations on this important issue and thank them for their award-winning efforts.”
Additionally, Consumers Energy also took part in “NNO activities in Muskegon, Saginaw Township and Roscommon”. While, Ethical Performance reports that:
“The 2016 NNO event was the largest ever, involving approximately 38.5 million people in more than 16,100 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. Local residents were encouraged to participate by turning on their porch lights from 7 to 10 p.m.”
