Edison Employees Strengthen Community through Family Volunteering and Donations
The Straub family, all employees of Southern California Edison, are known for their regular involvement in volunteer activities. They are active participants in the annual National Family Volunteer Day, an initiative of the Community Action Partnership of Orange County, now in its 18th year.
Nicole Straub shares that their collective volunteer work not only brings them closer as a family but also instills a sense of pride and purpose. She believes that their joint efforts to uplift their community create special family moments while making a positive difference.
During the recent Orange County Food Bank event, a group of 240 volunteers, including employees, friends, and family, packed 4,937 food boxes. These boxes, filled with a variety of food items like juice, non-dairy milk, rice, beans, cereal, peanut butter, canned fruits, and vegetables, play a vital role in addressing food insecurity during the holiday season. The National Family Volunteer Day is a global event that celebrates the power of families volunteering together to support their communities.
Caroline Choi, the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Edison International and SCE, expresses her anticipation for this signature event each year. She emphasizes that the event’s success is not just about the number of boxes packed, but about the people they are helping and the community they are fortifying.
Edison International has also donated $20,000 to the Community Action Partnership of Orange County, continuing their long-standing tradition of support since 2004. Besides the Family Volunteer Day, Edison also backs CAP-OC’s Kindergarten to College STEM program, which prepares high school students and young adults for college and their future careers.
Alexandra Bodenhoefer, a senior specialist in Planning at SCE, attends the event every year with her family and friends. They add a touch of friendly competition to their efforts to address the serious issue of regional food insecurity.
“We come to win,” said Bodenhoefer. “We want to show our support for families in need, while also defending our title for most boxes packed. Our goal is to set the bar high and beat our record from the previous year.”
