Energy Assistance Programs: Helping Families Stay Safe & Comfortable Year-Round
Energy demands never take a break—whether it’s keeping warm in the winter or staying cool in the summer. That’s why we strongly support initiatives like LIHEAP, which offer crucial financial aid to low-income households throughout the year. During LIHEAP Action Day in Washington, D.C., our team engaged with legislators to highlight the need for sustained and increased funding for these essential programs.
“At PSE&G, we recognize that some of our customers face financial difficulties, and we understand just how vital energy is to their daily lives,” said Rosa Pagnillo-Lopez, PSE&G Payment Assistance Outreach process lead.
“No one should have to decide between covering utility bills and meeting other basic needs. That’s why we remain dedicated to promoting assistance programs and connecting customers with the resources they require. We’re here to support them through challenging times.”
In 2024, we helped more than 225,000 customers secure over $265 million in payment assistance. However, there is still more to do—we estimate that an additional 100,000 customers may qualify for aid but have not yet applied. By advocating for increased funding, we aim to assist even more families in maintaining safe and comfortable living conditions throughout the year.
These programs provide more than just financial relief—they serve as a lifeline for vulnerable groups, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families with young children. LIHEAP offers eligible households an average of $350 for heating, $300 for medically necessary cooling, and up to $800 in crisis support annually. Additionally, the Universal Service Fund (USF) and PAGE program provide further assistance. These figures represent more than just monetary aid—they reflect real solutions that help New Jersey residents navigate extreme weather conditions and maintain stability.
