Dailycsr.com – 24 March 2018 – Sands Cares is the “corporate giving” programme of Las Vegas Sands, whereby the company aims to contribute to a “positive change” in the “homelessness problem in Las Vegas” which is quite “significant” now.
Las Vegas Sands partners with numerous agencies to play an “active role” in providing “new solutions and resources to address the issue”. Statistics show that Las Vegas holds “highest rate” of eighty percent “unsheltered” population in the nation, besides harbouring the “third largest unaccompanied youth homeless population”, whereby becoming the sixth one among the major cities to have homeless population.
In the words of the Nevada Homeless Alliance’s executive director, Emily Paulsen:
“Sands Cares is always at the table representing the business community. Overall, the financial support that we receive from Sands Cares allows us to keep our existing programs and develop new ones. They offer collaboration on projects like Project Homeless Connect and our weekly event, Pop-Up Homeless Connect.”
NHA or the Nevada Homeless Alliance is among the other local organisations which receive resources from Sands Cares for tackling the issue of “homelessness”. In the year of 1992, the NHA was established which has brought together “community partners and social service providers” to plan and execute various events wherein “homeless” people were given “legal aid, housing assistance, health care, clothing, food and showers all in one place”.
NHA serves clients with “exactly what they need”, and so far has “helped over 15,000 clients” in a partnership with more than “150 organization in Southern Nevada”. While, Paulsen added:
“Sands Cares helps to provide expertise, resources, public relations and a business mind. Corporate partnerships help us reach a larger community. We think the help that Sands Cares has provided us has led other businesses to help and assist us to end homelessness in the community.”
Clean the World powers the “Sands Cares Fresh Start Mobile Showers”, through which the NHA has cultivated a “new relationship with Clean the World”. Events like “Pop-Up Connect”, as well as “Project Homeless Connect” features the shower programme, whereby it has served more than “2,700 homeless in 2017 with employment, housing, and health care assistance”.
In these endeavour, NHA received help from “government, private sector and other organizations”. In fact, Paulsen continued:
“Money can’t solve it alone, the donation of time goes a long way. The public must help, be aware and understand our homelessness issue. I want the community to know that homelessness has many faces. They can be seniors, veterans, youth and families. Some people work full-time and are still homeless. The majority are our neighbors who have worked and lived here for a long time. They have had issues that have led to this experience. This is a community issue and the community needs to be involved in the solution.”
