Dailycsr.com – 27 July 2020 – Tetra Tech enters in a partnership with the City of Boulders, Colorado for its “Biogas Use Enhancement Project”, whereby the former is building an RNG, “biogas-to-renewable natural gas”, conditioning system at the “Water Resource Recovery Facility” located at Colorado. In this system, “wastewater digesters” produced biogas undergo a conversion to RNG which could be used to fuel vehicles.
The fuels will then go to the “community partners after injection” into the system of the “Public Service Company of Colorado” for delivery. The RNG delivery in Colorado is expected to take place by September 2020. Through this project the city will be able to qualify for “renewable fuel producers” grants as per the “U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard”.
In the words of the “Wastewater Treatment Manager” at Colorado, Chris Douville:
“This Biogas Use Enhancement Project is the next step toward making the WRRF more environmentally sustainable as well as economically viable. We’re pleased to realize the positive impact on the community’s climate goals through production and use of RNG as vehicle fuel, as well as the City’s financial ability to support other renewable energy and sustainability projects in the future through sale of RNG.”
The list work to be done includes “installing Tetra Tech’s proprietary BioCNG™ gas conditioning system, replacing the existing cogeneration engines and heat recovery systems, and upgrading the hydronic system used to heat the digesters and other buildings”.
While, the project manager at Tetra Tech, Paul Stout added:
“From our pioneering work with one of the first biogas-to-RNG projects, more than a decade ago, to this exciting new project, Tetra Tech continues Leading with Science® to create sustainable long-term solutions. By bringing cutting-edge technological and economical solutions to forward-looking clients, we enable them to implement projects that achieve environment stewardship goals while delivering best in-class value.”
