To address the increasing challenges of manual sorting processes and plastic waste in tire packaging operations, SEE has developed the world's first automated tire wrapping solution. This innovation is designed to eliminate special handling fees for customers and prevent tires from rolling, thereby ensuring safety and equipment integrity during sorting and delivery. Utilizing StealthWrap shrink wrapping technology, the solution integrates PE recyclable film with a corrugated tray and ultrasonic welded bond. This packaging method reduces the weight of plastic materials by 65% compared to traditional PVC non-recyclable film solutions, easily passes through UPS sorting facilities without additional handling, and removes safety concerns associated with rolling tires. This new approach also cuts labor requirements by 60%, saves warehouse space, and can boost fulfillment speed by up to seven times.
BUBBLE WRAP Brand High-Recycled Content Cushioning with Circular Resin
In a partnership aimed at delivering scalable circular solutions throughout the retail value chain, SEE is working with a national retailer and a major recycler to create the first BUBBLE WRAP brand cushioning made with high-recycled content using circular resins. This cushioning includes at least 60% post-industrial recycled content and 30% circular post-consumer recycled material, totaling up to 90% recycled content.
This collaboration turns plastic waste into high-performance, cost-effective, sustainable packaging. It diverts the retailer’s distribution waste, including BUBBLE WRAP brand cushioning and other polyethylene films, then recycles and reuses it in the packaging that SEE provides. By incorporating circular resin into the BUBBLE WRAP brand, the retailer can meet its sustainability goals and enhance its brand reputation without compromising product protection and performance. This initiative increases the use of recycled content and decreases the need for virgin materials in shipping. It also demonstrates the feasibility of a circular system based on mechanical recycling and mass balance attribution.
SEE's circular business model creates cost efficiencies, new sources of recycled content, and enhances the marketable value of plastic packaging, thereby benefiting partners across the value chain by closing the loop.
Scalable Solutions for Biopharmaceuticals
Fortem biopharmaceutical film, developed specifically for bioprocessing applications and exclusively licensed to Cytiva, a technology and services provider for biotherapeutics, is engineered and patented by SEE. This inert film platform, featuring a 10-layer architecture, ensures structural integrity and controls extractables and leachables. Designed to maintain critical performance attributes like container integrity and gas barrier properties, the film withstands the stresses of rocking bioreactors and liquid transport. It is produced in SEE's ISO 7 cleanroom, maintaining class 100 particulate levels.
Reducing Waste Across the Supply Chain and Extending Product Shelf Life
Created for JBS Foods Australia to ensure optimal presentation and protection of its Swift brand lamb cutlets, CRYOVAC brand Darfresh mono-PET rollstock uses specially formulated high-barrier top and bottom webs to form a vacuum skin around the product, reducing waste throughout the supply chain. This innovation cuts 5,000 kilograms of plastic annually by minimizing the tray thickness.
The tamper-evident, clear packaging allows consumers to view both sides of the product, preventing physical and microbial spoilage while extending the fresh-chilled shelf life to 18 days. This initiative has recovered over 60,000 kilograms of packaging through council curbside collection programs. The solution won gold in the food packaging category and silver in the sustainable packaging category at the 2023 Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design Awards.
