U.S. Bank Recognizes Community Champions: Taqueria Durango and Interfaith Dental Win Boundless Potential Award
U.S. Bank recently presented its inaugural Boundless Potential award to two small business clients, Taqueria Durango and Interfaith Dental, in recognition of their exceptional dedication to community service. The Mexican restaurant in St. Louis and the nonprofit dental clinic in Nashville were acknowledged for their outstanding efforts to support those in need. Each organization received a $5,000 donation for their chosen charity.

Tim Welsh, Vice Chair of Consumer and Business Banking at U.S. Bank, emphasized that the award was designed to celebrate clients who exemplify a spirit of community impact. He highlighted the bank's commitment to investing in its clients, recognizing them as catalysts for local economies and contributors to the overall well-being of their communities. According to Welsh, when clients' potential is empowered, they, in turn, contribute to the boundless potential of their communities.

Taqueria Durango, established in 2009 by Miguel and Isidora Lopez, faced adversity when a kitchen fire destroyed the restaurant in March 2020, coinciding with the onset of the Covid pandemic. Despite their challenges, the Lopez family redirected their focus towards community service, collaborating with organizations to distribute essential supplies and later transforming their property into a Covid vaccination site.

Interfaith Dental, the second recipient, operates as a volunteer-driven nonprofit dental clinic, offering affordable dental care to vulnerable populations in Middle Tennessee. With more than half of its expenses reliant on donations, the clinic was established in 1994 to assist working poor families and the elderly who face challenges accessing private practice or public healthcare. The clinic currently operates in Nashville and Murfreesboro, addressing the significant demand for its services, evident in a waitlist of over 1,200 people.

“Interfaith Dental is a special place for hope and healing,” said Dr. Rhonda Switzer, CEO of Interfaith Dental. “The service we provide is absolutely vital for equity – it’s a disparity that shows on a person’s face. A smile can truly change everything in someone’s life.”
