In celebration of its 200th anniversary, KeyBank has pledged a $200,000 donation to Cleveland Guardians Charities. Chris Gorman, Chairman and CEO of KeyCorp, formally presented the contribution on behalf of the KeyBank Foundation to Paul Dolan, Owner, Chairman, and CEO of the Cleveland Guardians, during “KeyBank Bicentennial Night” held on April 12 at Progressive Field.
The donation coincided with the exact date KeyBank was founded—April 12, 1825, in Albany, New York. Over the past two centuries, KeyBank has expanded into one of the country’s leading bank-based financial institutions. The funds are designated to benefit the Guardians’ Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. This Major League Baseball initiative focuses on fostering academic success, promoting youth participation in sports, and helping talented athletes progress to college-level and professional play.
“As we mark this significant milestone, we’re honored to team up with the Cleveland Guardians in supporting local youth both academically and athletically,” Gorman said. “Cleveland has always been a vital part of KeyBank’s story, and we remain committed to serving our clients, colleagues, and communities—past, present, and future.”
Penny Forster, Director of Community Impact, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “KeyBank’s generous contribution will strengthen our RBI Program, which offers participants invaluable life skills and opportunities. We’re eager to see the lasting impact these young individuals will make in our community and in the sport.”
The RBI program primarily serves student-athletes from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Play Ball! CLE. Many of these students are eligible for full scholarships to over 100 private colleges and universities across the U.S. through the Say Yes to Education initiative.
As part of the Bicentennial Night celebration, Gorman also had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the Guardians faced off against the Kansas City Royals. Over 1,000 KeyBank employees were in attendance to commemorate the occasion.
