Lenovo Maintains AA Rating in 2024 Hang Seng Sustainability Index for IT Industry Leadership

10/24/2024

Lenovo is proud to announce that it has maintained its AA rating in the 2024 Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS). Among the 550 companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Lenovo achieved the highest score within the IT sector for its environmental efforts, also recognized by CDP for leadership in climate action and supplier engagement.

The HSSUS rating is based on a thorough evaluation process conducted by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), an independent professional body, using a proprietary sustainability assessment and rating framework. The index measures a company's performance across seven key areas under the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) categories, including Corporate Governance, Human Rights, Labor Practices, Environmental Impact, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Relations, and Community Involvement.

The sustainability assessment methodology is updated annually to reflect changes in the ESG landscape, considering both international and local standards. It incorporates general criteria alongside industry-specific factors across the three ESG pillars, with a balanced rating approach and adjustments based on industry relevance.

Lenovo’s inclusion in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index highlights its enduring commitment to building a sustainable future. The company is on track to meet its 2030 emissions reduction targets and was among the first group of businesses to have its 2050 net-zero goals validated by the Science Based Targets initiative's Net-Zero Standard. Lenovo continues to make strides in the circular economy by increasing the use of sustainable materials, recycling, and asset disposal.

Since 2017, Lenovo has reused or recycled over 94,000 metric tons of products through its PELM programs—the equivalent weight of 87 million ThinkPads. Additionally, Lenovo has invested more than $50 million in global communities since 2022. With a focus on “Smarter AI for All” and the establishment of its Responsible AI Committee, Lenovo is actively governing its innovation in line with ethical, responsible, and safe AI development and deployment.
