Arbor Day Carbon Releases 2024 Insights on Voluntary Carbon Market Trends
Arbor Day Carbon, a branch of the Arbor Day Foundation, has released its 2024 Insights Summary, offering an in-depth look at the evolving voluntary carbon market. The report highlights key trends, challenges, and opportunities while emphasizing the urgent need for corporate buyers to take decisive action in support of climate and nature-focused goals.

“A well-functioning voluntary carbon market has the potential to drive significant global change,” said Chris Tointon, president of Arbor Day Carbon. “With 2030 climate targets fast approaching, it’s critical for stakeholders to step up and take action through tree-based solutions. That’s why our team is committed to uniting market participants to encourage continued progress and innovation.”

The report explores the increasing focus on quality within the market, the pressing need to expand the availability of high-quality carbon credits, and how uncertainty is causing hesitation among buyers. It also outlines how various corporations are partnering with Arbor Day Carbon to create meaningful environmental impact through voluntary carbon initiatives.

"We can't allow the pursuit of perfection to hinder progress," said Jeremy Manion, managing director of carbon markets at Arbor Day Carbon. “The market is making significant strides, and while challenges remain, it remains one of the most powerful tools available for tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and economic development. By working together and maintaining high standards, we can continue strengthening the market and shaping a more sustainable future.”

As a team of industry professionals, Arbor Day Carbon works closely with corporate buyers, investors, project developers, and local planting partners to drive measurable impact in crucial ecosystems. To date, the organization has facilitated transactions for over seven million forestry carbon credits, retired 1.6 million credits on the American Carbon Registry—more than any other nonprofit—and contributed to the planting of millions of trees.
