Iberdrola shows the way for sustainable living

To live well within the limits of the planet, nine billion people need a system that changes how they produce, distribute, and consume things. This way, they can switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources for electricity.

Ramón Zumárraga, the Director of Purchasing Services at Iberdrola, said that such a system change requires serious investments and long-term partnerships. Iberdrola is the third largest electricity company in the world by market value and the leader in renewable energy. Zumárraga explained in an interview at SAP Sapphire Barcelona how Iberdrola’s business model for renewable energy uses technology to create value.

They do this by improving processes and productivity, or by increasing efficiency. Iberdrola has many creative ideas. Zumárraga likes the agro-solar projects that use land for both solar power and farming.
 
“Whether using solar parks for beehives or cattle grazing, we try not to occupy the land for a single purpose,” said Zumárraga.
