What if the true heroes of our planet don’t wear capes but are instead students and scientists? You don’t need superpowers or mythical weapons to protect the Earth—sometimes, it’s about working to safeguard the environment and build a brighter future for all.
We’re committed to empowering the next generation of Earth’s defenders by providing support to New Jersey students and funding university programs that are focused on a cleaner energy future. Together, we’re building a team dedicated to creating a sustainable future for the generations to come.
Earth Heroes, assemble!
Stevens Institute of Technology: The "Sustainability Sentinel"
Every superhero team needs a powerhouse, and in our mission for sustainability, Stevens Institute of Technology takes the lead as the "Sustainability Sentinel." Over the past 20 years, our partnership has secured over $4.8 million in funding, with a recent $1.45 million grant for the next three years (2024-2026). This grant supports several initiatives, including the Workforce Development Program, the Stevens Center on Sustainability (SCS), and various pre-college and undergraduate programs.
Through scholarships, pre-college students from underrepresented areas of Hudson, Essex, and Union counties gain access to summer programs, internships, and mentorships—without financial barriers. These students receive mentorship and guidance to navigate college applications and prepare to become planet-saving leaders.
The Workforce Development Program provides scholarships, mentorship, and opportunities for research in environmental justice. Additionally, the Stevens Center on Sustainability expands collaboration among researchers tackling the most urgent sustainability challenges. With support from the PSEG Foundation, these young minds have the tools, funding, and career paths to take real action toward a sustainable world.
Montclair State University: The "EcoForce"
Montclair State University’s "EcoForce" is transforming students into sustainability champions through the Green Teams Internship Program. By partnering with corporations, nonprofits, and municipalities, these students address real-world environmental challenges while honing their sustainability knowledge and skills.
Guided by experienced leaders, these students work both on campus and in the community, building valuable professional experience. After 10 weeks of hands-on projects, they present their work to a live audience, showcasing their impact in the fight for a sustainable future.
Rutgers University Douglass College: The "STEM Warriors"
At Rutgers University’s Douglass College, the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) programs equip young women with the skills and support they need to thrive in STEM fields. These "STEM Warriors" participate in STEM conferences, career panels, and mentorship programs that prepare them for careers in science and technology.
With backing from the PSEG Foundation, we’ve helped develop a mentorship program that pairs Douglass College students with experienced professionals, ensuring that these future STEM leaders are ready for any challenge.
New Jersey Institute of Technology: The "Tech Titans of Tomorrow"
Our long-standing partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology has led to a five-year, $800,000 grant to broaden the reach of their Undergraduate Research and Innovation program. At the high school level, this grant enhances opportunities for Newark students pursuing STEM degrees through the NJIT-Newark Math Success Initiative. NJIT’s Center for Pre-College Programs introduces over 3,000 local students to STEM every year, helping young people explore careers in technology and engineering.
Rowan University: The "Rising Innovators"
Rowan University’s RISE (Rowan’s Introduction for Students to Engineering) and SWEET (Society of Women Engineers – Engineers in Training) programs offer high school students hands-on engineering experiences. RISE introduces students to different engineering disciplines, while SWEET engages them in engineering-related activities led by professionals and faculty. Together, these programs help students explore their potential and develop skills that will help shape their future careers.
Eastwick College: The "Terrific Team of Ten"
Eastwick College brings together a group of students every year known as the "Terrific Team of Ten," providing scholarships and real-world experience in essential trades like plumbing, electrical work, and welding. These students are being prepared for careers that will help make the world a cleaner, greener place. Our support over the last three years, totaling $15,000 in scholarships, has helped these students hone their skills and make a positive impact on the environment.
HBCU Empowerment
Through a $1 million HBCU grant, we are also increasing diversity in STEM fields by supporting students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This initiative has opened doors for students from underrepresented communities, helping them gain the skills and education needed to address environmental challenges.
We’re committed to empowering the next generation of Earth’s defenders by providing support to New Jersey students and funding university programs that are focused on a cleaner energy future. Together, we’re building a team dedicated to creating a sustainable future for the generations to come.
