Dailycsr.com – 25 March 2018 – Girlstart is a non-profit organisation which has dedicated itself to STEM education for girls, whereby it has recently made an announcement to reveal an “expansion of its partnership with MilliporeSigma in 2018”.
It is with the support from MilliporeSigma that the Girlstart has plans of introducing its “innovative after-school programs and summer camps” in “Houston, Boston, and St. Louis metro areas”, whereby serving as inspirations for girls to undertake STEM education and to pursue careers in the same fields.
Moreover, MilliporeSigma and Girlstart also form a collaboration, wherein the duo brings the “Curiosity Cube™ mobile science lab” in the “Austin hometown” for the “Girls in STEM Conference”. The said “signature conference” took place on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Travis High School.
This has marked the event’s “13th annual edition”, wherein over five hundred girls from the grades fourth to eighth were given the “opportunity” of meeting and learning from various women working in the STEM fields as professionals all through the Central Texas. The Executive Director of Girlstart, said:
“Girlstart is honored to partner with MilliporeSigma, as we seek to bring STEM education to more and more girls across the nation. The Curiosity Cube™ mobile science lab is a fitting, physical representation of MilliporeSigma’s investment in sparking curiosity about STEM, and we’re thrilled to have it here as part of this year’s Girls in STEM Conference.”
On the other hand, MilliporeSigma’s head of “Communications and Corporate Responsibility”, Renee Connolly added:
“Only 24 percent of STEM jobs are held by women. We need to help change that statistic. That’s why we are committed to Girlstart and other organizations that inspire young people to explore science, technology, engineering and math-related careers. They are the next generation of problem solvers.”
