FedEx & Heart to Heart Intl. Deliver Mobile Medical Relief with MMU
Several decades ago, a television commercial posed the question: How do you spell relief? The answer was cleverly spelled out using the name of a well-known health product, highlighting each letter.

When it comes to disaster response and ongoing healthcare needs, another way to spell relief is "M-M-U"—short for Mobile Medical Unit.

In 2023, FedEx donated a brand-new MMU to Heart to Heart International, making it the largest vehicle in their fleet. This 45-foot unit is equipped to deliver essential medical supplies, medication, equipment, and healthcare professionals to disaster-affected areas across the continental U.S.

This donation was part of the FedEx Cares Delivering for Good initiative, a philanthropic program through which FedEx provides financial contributions and in-kind shipping services to support global disaster relief efforts.

With the MMU, Heart to Heart International has expanded its ability to respond swiftly to major disasters while also addressing ongoing healthcare needs. The unit supports community health programs designed to close healthcare gaps and empower individuals—particularly women—by offering essential services such as breast and cervical cancer screenings.

The accompanying photo captures the MMU alongside a Mobile Medical Van, both standing ready to serve residents of St. Joseph and Buchanan County, Missouri, in March 2025.

For over three decades, FedEx and Heart to Heart International have worked together to bring aid to disaster-stricken communities worldwide. With a fleet of 700 aircraft and 200,000 vehicles, FedEx plays a critical role in ensuring that relief supplies reach those who need them most.

So, when disaster strikes or when vital healthcare services are needed, how do you spell relief? M-M-U.
